• The progressive incremental methodology, used by Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM), was designed to reduce both data redundancy and storage consumption alike. It achieves this by only backing up new or changed versions of files, instead of relying on the traditional backup method of running one weekly full and daily incremental backups.
• IUII also utilizes the automated data protection that comes packaged with TSM to create offsite copies of clients data as part of the daily Administration tasks. IUII is able to accomplish this through the use of two identical IBM 3584 Automated tape libraries, one of which is housed in the IUPUI Data Center and the other that is housed in the BL Data Center. This provides our clients with secure offsite storage of data without the need to unload the storage media and transfer it to an offsite location.
• TSM also provides client with the ability to utilize client-based encryption to protect critical data from the moment it leaves the server to the moment it is stored on sequential media.
• Clients are also able to initiate data restoration processes 24 hours a day without the need of outside intervention.
